Accessibility

What we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

Oakline Flooring wants this site to be usable by everyone looking for flooring, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or a browser set to larger text.

What the site does

  • A skip link, so keyboard users can jump straight past the navigation to the content.
  • Every page has one main heading, with headings nested in order below it.
  • All images carry alternative text, and decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers.
  • Form fields have labels attached to them, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone.
  • The site works without a mouse: everything reachable by clicking is reachable by tabbing, and the focus outline is left visible.
  • Text sizes use relative units, so browser zoom and larger default font sizes work normally.
  • Layouts reflow to narrow screens without a horizontal scrollbar.

What we know is not finished

Listing these is more useful than claiming a standard we have not formally tested against.

  • No formal audit yet — The points above were checked by hand during development. The site has not been through an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim a conformance level.
  • Product photography — Alt text describes each product by name and finish. Some supplier photography has text rendered into the image itself, which a screen reader cannot read.
  • Colour contrast — Body text and controls were checked against their backgrounds. Some muted secondary text sits lower in contrast than the main body text, which is on the list to revisit.

If something blocks you

Tell us and we will fix it. If a page or a product is getting in your way, we can also just send you the information directly — specifications, availability and a quote can all be handled by email or over the phone instead of through this site.
